This year’s Sherry Clarkson Prize for the best graduate student paper delivered at the 2021 RAW Conference goes to Shivika Mathur for her paper “Practical in the Extreme”: Hyperbole and (Dis)enchantment in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper.”
Shivika is a literature Ph.D. student and TA, teaching Rhetoric 1302. Her presentation, ‘“Practical in the Extreme:” Hyperbole and (Dis)enchantment in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper,’” was chosen, in part, for “clarity and originality of its argument, especially in revisiting a text that has a very well-developed interpretive literature surrounding it.”
A special thanks, as well, to the Clarkson Prize Committee members: Prof’s. Dan Wickberg (Chair), Ashley Barnes, Kate Davies, and Charissa Terranova for their work selecting this year’s recipient.
Shivika is exemplary of the high quality of scholarship presented at this year’s RAW conference and we are looking forward to continuing that tradition in 2022.
