Current and former David Marks’ Field Audio Recording Techniques (ANGM 3373) students volunteered to record and mix live music during Wednesday’s Strings Attached 90’s Night performance.
Marks, assistant professor of practice at the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at UT Dallas, teaches various courses in audio design. In ANGM 3373, students learn the theoretical and practical processes of recording audio outside the studio.
“ANGM 3373 is about capturing moments, not just sound,” Marks said. “From setting up mic stands to live mixing and post-production, our students learn the art of creating sonic stories. By volunteering to document several Bass School lectures and concerts throughout the year, they get countless hours of hands-on audio engineering field work and grow as competitive sound-design professionals during their time as students.”
Marks’ crew often volunteers to document Bass School events by performing multi-track recordings of live performances, film-style audio recordings, and ambisonic/surround recordings.
