UT Dallas Virtual Reality Research Lab Wins Four Prestigious Davey Awards

The University of Texas at Dallas VAST Lab Virtual Reality Research Lab, in partnership with Professor Jeff Price (RelevantVR) and Professor Bryon Caldwell, earned four prestigious Davey Awards in recognition of its outstanding work in the field of virtual reality innovation.

With over 3,000 entries worldwide this year, the Davey Awards, by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA), recognize outstanding achievements in web, design, video, advertising, mobile, and social content from small agencies globally.

“We are honored to receive these prestigious awards from the Davey Awards,” VAST Lab Director, Professor Jeff Price. “It is proof of the hard work and dedication of our talented students and team who continually strive to create immersive and impactful virtual reality experiences. These awards inspire us to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of virtual reality.”

The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts is comprised by an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from acclaimed brand and media, interactive, advertising, and marketing firms, including Spotify, Majestyk, Big Spaceship, Nissan, Tinder, Conde Nast, Disney, Microsoft, GE Digital, JP Morgan, PGA Tour, Wired, and many others.

The four awards won by the Virtual Reality Research Lab are as follows:

  1. Gold Award – Individual Achievement-Graphic Design: New Mexico Museum of Art Poetic Justice Exhibit Catalog
  2. Silver Award – Virtual & Immersive Experiences-Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: New Mexico Museum of Art “Multicultural” Augmented Reality Mural Re-envisioning
  3. Silver Award – Virtual & Immersive Experiences-Augmented Reality: New Mexico Museum of Art Vladem Contemporary Judy Chicago ‘Kitty City’ Augmented Reality Art Piece
  4. Silver Award – Creative Innovation-World-Building Design: Tulsa Union High School Metaverse Football Stadium
