Art History (MA)
The Master’s in Art History program at the O’Donnell Institute introduces students to a global history of art through close engagement with artworks held in collections in Dallas-Fort Worth and beyond.
Animation (MFA)
The MFA in Animation program immerses students in contemporary animation and visual effects techniques, as well as their historical and cultural significance. Our curriculum cultivates artistic vision, honing skills across 3D, 2D, and experimental animation methods. Critical and creative thinking are fostered to expand students’ aesthetic and problem-solving abilities. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in the entertainment industry and academia.


Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication (MA, MFA, PhD)

With an ATEC advanced degree, you are prepared to teach, analyze, and design the latest in emerging media technologies.
Game Development (MFA)
Our MFA in Game Development focuses on the art and technology of game design, blending innovation with exploration. Students delve into game structure, content and design, engaging in practices suitable for academic, experimental, independent and commercial purposes. Graduates emerge ready for dynamic careers in the game industry or academia, equipped with the knowledge and expertise to thrive in both realms.


History (MA, PhD)
Our MA and PhD programs in History cater to both individuals seeking to deepen their understanding and expertise in historical analysis and those aspiring to pursue a doctorate in a related field. MA students are presented with two distinct pathways: a research track and a professional track. Those with aspirations for doctoral studies are advised to opt for the research track.
Humanities (MA, PhD)
Our graduate programs in the Humanities serve as a convergence point for scholars hailing from fields including history, philosophy, literature, creative writing, art history, film studies and the performing arts. Latin American Studies (MA)
Expanding upon the distinctive interdisciplinary framework of the Bass School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology, the Latin American studies program offers an integrated curriculum that intertwines literary, historical, cultural and visual analyses. Students can opt for either a professional or research option, each crafted to equip individuals for advanced doctoral studies.
Literature (MA, PhD)
Our graduate programs in literature offer a dynamic environment for delving into research across a diverse spectrum of literary traditions, critical methodologies, and theoretical discussions. Beyond engaging in literary studies coursework, students also have the chance to partake in creative writing workshops, literary translation workshops, and seminars spanning various disciplines like film studies, the history of ideas, philosophy, and the visual and performing arts.


Philosophy (MA)
The Philosophy program delves deeply into the realm of philosophy. Students will not exclusively delve into the annals of philosophy; rather, their work will be enriched by understanding how historical context influences philosophical ideas. The program also provides professionalization training, either preparing applications to PhD programs or other non-academic opportunities.
Visual and Performing Arts (MA, PhD)
The graduate programs in the visual and performing arts offer an interdisciplinary framework for both research and practice, spanning a rich array of creative and academic realms.
