Minor in Communication Studies
Learn the communication skills employers strongly desire.
Minor in Communication Studies
A minor in Communication Studies doesn’t just introduce you to the theories behind human interaction—it equips you with valuable, in-demand skills that employers actively seek. In fact, a 2018 report by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) highlighted communication skills as essential, with 201 employers recognizing the value of competencies gained through Communication Studies.
Communication Studies is also a growing field, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics projecting a 4% increase in related jobs over the next decade. With training in COMM, students are well-prepared for diverse career paths, from public relations specialists and broadcast journalists to web content developers, technical communicators, film and video editors, and more.
Beyond career readiness, a minor in COMM prepares you for active engagement in civic life. The National Communication Association (NCA) describes Communication Studies as a discipline that “cuts across contexts and situations” and serves as a “relational and collaborative force” that shapes our social world. Strong communication skills help build and sustain relationships, meet employer needs across all industries, and support meaningful civic participation in communities.
With COMM courses, you’ll not only gain a deeper understanding of citizenship but also learn how to navigate and contribute to an increasingly interconnected world.
