Recent UT Dallas graduate Elizabeth “Tess” Helfrich BA’21 BS’21 recently had her undergraduate capstone/thesis published in the Yale Historical Review. The paper, “A House is Not a Home: Examining the Definition of Home for Nineteenth-Century Enslaved Americans,” appears in the Fall 2021 issue of the Review.
Helfrich, who earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and history from the School of Arts and Humanities, said she plans to attend medical school this fall.
Dr. Whitney Stewart, assistant professor of history, said Helfrich shined as a UT Dallas student and deserves recognition for her work.
“Tess is incredibly hardworking, deeply empathetic, and exceptionally astute. Her education as a history major has deepened all of those qualities, revealing to her the work still to be done in this world and the difference she can make. And I truly believe she will make a difference,” said Stewart. “Tess shows us once again just how useful a history major can be to students interested in a wide variety of jobs.”
