Dr. Maurine Ogbaa

Dr. Maurine Ogbaa, assistant professor of literature in the School of Arts and Humanities, has been selected to participate in a one-month residency through the Jentel Artist Residency Program. Ogbaa, a writer-scholar who teaches graduate and undergraduate prose workshops and literature seminars at UT Dallas, will work from July 15 to August 15 in Banner, Wyoming. She will be one of two writers who, along with four visual artists, were invited out of 275 applicants. During her residency, Dr. Ogbaa will revise a novella which is part of her short fiction collection which broadly examines black life through Nigerian Americans in Houston, Texas. Stories from this collection have been published in Callaloo, AGNI, and Prairie Schooner, which awarded her the 2020 Glenna Luschei Award.
