Robert Xavier Rodríguez

In celebration of Latin Heritage Month, a radio network in Colorado recently featuring music composed by Dr. Robert Xavier Rodriguez, UT Dallas professor of music and Chair in Art and Aesthetic Studies. Rodriguez was among the “18 Latin American Composers You Should Know” by Colorado Public Radio, with a radio program dedicated to his music. Besides Rodriguez, other featured composers were artists such as Heitor Villa-Lobos, Silvestre Revueltas, Carlos Chávez, Alberto Ginastera and Astor Piazzolla. A native of San Antonio, Rodriguez studied under the legendary French composition teacher Nadia Boulanger as well as American composer Elliott Carter. He is best known for his eight operas, performed by major companies around the world, and he also writes beloved works for children. Rodríguez has been called “one of the major American composers of his generation” by Texas Monthly.
