The School of Arts and Humanities mourns the death of Karen Baynham, senior lecturer and director of first year communication courses. Baynham began teaching part-time at UT Dallas in 2007. Because of her intuitive design and strong teaching, in 2020 she received the President’s Teaching Excellence Award in online/blended Instruction. Her colleagues remember her as “a playful and funny individual who was also an outstanding administrator and professional.” Baynham was praised for her administration of the new core communication course, “placing it on firm foundation of high expectations, nurturing care, and student-centered instruction.”
