A play written by a UT Dallas doctoral student was staged recently at the Wily Studio Theatre at the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas. Janelle Gray wrote the one-act play, RAGE, which explores the stories of Black US-ian women throughout the history of the United States. Ten women take their place on stage to share their stories of strength, resilience, perseverance and struggle across the history of the nation. RAGE ran at from March 31 to April 9, with six of the eight shows sold out. Gray, who also is a rhetoric teaching assistant, is a creative writer, blogger, podcaster, producer, teacher, student and creative writing consultant with experience in assistant directing short films. Producing and publishing under her company, All A Gray Area, she has four published books, a CD, and a portfolio of plays, short films, TV series, and feature films. As an academic, Gray’s interdisciplinary methodology explores the connections between creative works, history, and actions toward justice and equity in creative and academic spaces.
