What was it like in the 1970s?
“We started bringing in music, and entertainment, and comics, and all kinds of things like that to let people sort of transition from their job before. It was kind of an entertainment happy hour. And it was a place where they could decompress and then go on to class.”
– Sparky Sparks BA ’77
The first bachelor’s degree ever awarded by UT Dallas was a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature, presented to Mrs. Catherine Carpenter during the May 1976 Commencement at University Theatre. This ceremony marked the university’s first graduating class of 23 seniors.
