Advanced Orchestra / Chamber Music Ensemble (Musica Nova)

Perform chamber and orchestral music alongside professionals, gaining advanced ensemble experience and solo opportunities.

Dr. Robert Xavier Rodríguez
directs Musica Nova at a performance

Musica Nova is UT Dallas’ premier instrumental ensemble, offering advanced musicians the opportunity to perform chamber and orchestral works from all periods under the direction of acclaimed composer-conductor Dr. Robert Xavier Rodríguez. Open to undergraduate students through MUSI 3112 (fall) and MUSI 4112 (spring) and graduate students through VPAS 6333, the group provides a platform for skillful instrumentalists across all disciplines—including strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, plucked strings, and percussion—to refine their craft and perform in a professional setting. Admission is by audition.

Members of Musica Nova collaborate with UT Dallas faculty and professional musicians in the Musica Nova concert series. Students may even step into the spotlight as soloists, performing for audiences alongside world-class guest artists such as members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Opera Orchestra, and vocalists from the New York City and Metropolitan Operas.

For audition details, contact Dr. Robert Xavier Rodríguez at 972-883-2766, 972-238-8703, or RobertXavierRodriguez@tx.rr.com.
