UT Dallas students reentered campus on Jan. 17 to kick off the Spring 2024 semester.
Students enrolled in classes at The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology met with members of the Bass School communications team to share their goals and inspirations.
Meet the students who are looking forward to an exceptional Spring 2024! #Whoosh
“I’m looking forward to many classes, like Time-Based Media and Drawing for Animation,” Hernandez said. “Since I’m an ATEC major, I’m specifically focusing on Animations and Games. It’s just because I’ve always loved animation in general. I love everything about the medium, the moving of the picture; it’s just such an expressive medium.”
“I especially want to try and get into the experimental animation sections,” Hernandez added. “I love multi-media stuff, so exploring that would be really fun. “I’m currently in the motion design club, and I want to get more into that because motion design is cool since my mom is in graphic design. And then animation together would work really well together.”
“I’m looking forward to getting into more club activities,” Nourallah said. “I tried to get into some clubs last semester. I remember I joined a SpongeBob club where we just watched episodes together. I thought that was pretty fun, so I’m looking for more clubs and cool stuff to do on campus. I’m also looking forward to my classes too. I’m doing the Applied Experience Certificate through the Bass School, which my professor told me about, and it’s a good opportunity, so I’m just trying to get through those classes.
“I’d say I’m probably excited about … design research,” Nourallah added. “I know there’s going to be some stuff where you make something, and you have to go poll people, and you have to go collect data for it. I guess that’s probably the coolest thing I’m working on this semester, and other than that, I’m pretty much taking core and other prerequisites classes.”
“I think I’m looking forward to everything I get to learn this semester,” Shellenback said. “I’m excited about the classes I’m in and looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends.”
“I haven’t actually started in my classes, but I’m excited,” she added. “I’m in Intro to Proceduralism and Scripting for Animation so that I will do a lot of technical-based work for 3D software. I’m also in sculpture and advanced drawing, so I get to express my artistic side.”
“It is a little difficult since I started [studying Japanese] back when COVID happened,” Love said. “I’ve always had a passion for Japanese. I have family living in Japan. I’m excited to get back into the flow without putting it off for so long. I hope everyone has a good semester this year and looks forward to their spring semester.”
“Honestly, I’m excited about graduating in the Fall. But this semester in particular, I’m excited about taking my main classes for my major,” Love added.
“Work on more personal projects, live life, work the best I can, and be the best version of myself at UTD,” Torres said. “I’m excited to work on more 3D animations this semester and spend a lot of time in the computer lab and also making stuff related to what I like doing.”
