Congratulations to the 16th Annual Guitar Competition Winners

Main competition

First Place Winner Jesus Serrano Huitron

Born in Mexico City, Jesus Serrano started his professional studies of music at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City in 2003 under the guidance of Selvio Carrizosa, concluding his degree in 2012 under the direction of Jaime Soria. He has performed concerts in some of the most diverse halls in Mexico and the United States and played in festivals and competitions.

Second Place Winner Stephen Lochbaum

Stephen Lochbaum began his classical training at the late age of 18 and achieved much in a short span of time. Within six years he had earned a Master’s degree from the University of Victoria, won the National Music Festival of Canada, and had the immense honor of performing with the legendary guitarist Pepe Romero as well as Alexander Dunn and Randy Pile. Shortly after graduation Lochbaum had his radio debut on CBC Radio 1 performing Romancero Gitano by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with the internationally recognized Vancouver Cantata Singers.

On top of his busy schedule teaching, performing, and doing schoolwork Lochbaum has been very active on the competition circuit. Over the last three years he has earned thirty top prizes in international competitions in Canada, the United States, Germany and Spain. He recently won a contract with EMEC Discos and will record a CD in Madrid in the upcoming year

Third Place Winner Dariusz Lampkowski

Dariusz Lampkowski is a Polish classical guitarist, born in Słupsk. He graduated with honors from Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland, where he studied with a world-renowned virtuoso Marcin Dylla. He is continuing his education in Marc Teicholz’s studio at San Francisco Conservatory of Music. His stage experiences include numerous prizes at solo and chamber music competitions in Europe, such as: 1st Prize at International Guitar Competition in Olsztyn, Poland, 2016; 2nd Prize with Mandala Guitar Quartet at International Guitar Competition in Omis, Croatia, 2015; Honorable Mention at the “Guitartalent” Competition in Brno, Czech Republic, 2014; 2nd Prize and Special Prize for Best Tansman’s Performance at “Golden Guitar” Competition, Poznań, Poland, 2012; 2nd Prize at the Czesław Droździewicz International Guitar Competition in Krynica-Zdrój, Poland, 2012. He has performed during music festivals in Krynica-Zdrój, Katowice, Poznań, Jarocin and others.

Fourth Place Winner Anthony Mariano

Mariano was born in Washington DC, and grew up in Albuquerque New Mexico. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree at the University of Texas at Austin. Mariano was chosen by the faculty in 2013 to perform in the school’s annual Guitarrada, an event featuring music played on some of the world’s finest historical guitars. In June of 2016, he performed as a guest at the New Mexico Classical Guitar Festival.
