Return of a Maestro: Augustin Wiedemann Reflects on Special Connection with UTD

Renowned German guitarist Augustin Wiedemann performed an hour-long concert at The Jonsson Performance Hall, Friday.

Wiedemann performed 12 compositions, featuring the inaugural American rendition of “Three Waltzes and an Apparition (for Augustin Wiedemann),” a piece composed for him by Grammy-winning guitarist and composer Andrew York.

While visiting, Wiedemann participated in the Guitar Ensemble III course taught by Dr. Enric Madriguera, Russell Cleveland Professor in Guitar Studies. He played for the students and shared insights about his experiences as a globally recognized musician.

“It’s a special thing to come to UTD, which is such a famous university, and it’s an honor for me to be here,” Wiedemann said. “I was here five years ago and really enjoyed it. The concert I played last time at Jonsson Hall was completely full, and people gave me such a warm welcome that I had the feeling it would be nice to come back again.”
