esperanza spalding, the winner of The University of Texas at Dallas Richard Brettell Award in the Arts, recently shared her philosophies about music and life as she met with students, administrators and the public on the UT Dallas campus.
During her three-day Dallas residency in early March, spalding, who is a four-time Grammy winning musician, officially received the Brettell award at a dinner at the Crow Museum of Asian Art of The University of Texas at Dallas. She also performed a concert in downtown Dallas.
The highlight for many on the UT Dallas campus was the opportunity to meet and speak with spalding in person. Among her campus stops was a session at the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College, where approximately 15 students spent an hour with the artist, sharing their personal passions and asking questions. She also held a public lecture.
