Master of Arts in Philosophy
The Master of Arts in Philosophy program is a two-year course of study designed for students who are curious about the big questions that shape human thought and culture. This program is ideal for those considering further academic study as well as those looking to apply philosophical insights in various careers. Through challenging and thought-provoking coursework, students explore the history of philosophy and engage with ideas that have influenced modern societies. Whether you’re aiming for a PhD program or a career where strong critical thinking is valued, this degree gives you the tools to analyze complex issues from multiple perspectives.
Students in the program take courses across key areas of philosophy, including ancient, modern, and contemporary philosophy. They also study specialized topics such as Ethics, Philosophy of Science, and Gender and Feminism, which broaden their view of philosophy’s role in today’s world. All students participate in a required Professionalization Seminar during their second year, which helps them develop practical skills for their future. In this seminar, they build their academic portfolios, improve their writing, prepare a CV, and learn about applying to PhD programs or exploring other career paths where philosophy training is valued.
Throughout the program, students benefit from working closely with knowledgeable faculty who are active in many areas of philosophical study. Faculty members guide students through their coursework, mentor them in their research, and support their career and academic goals. The program offers a welcoming and supportive community, along with the advantage of being located in the Dallas area, where students can find professional connections and resources. Whether you’re aiming to teach, conduct research, work in public policy, or enter another field, our MA in Philosophy gives you a strong foundation to succeed in many different careers.
