Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication & Media Arts and Design Programs
Bass students prepare to become exceptional creators and scholars in an exciting environment that equips them with the technological skills to succeed in a globally connected world.
Take note: Effective Fall 2025, the Bachelor of Arts in Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication (BA in ATEC) degree program has been renamed the Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts and Design (BA in MAD). This new title better reflects the strengths of our Bachelor of Arts program and improves recognition across the University and in industry.

Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication / Media Arts and Design
ATEC and MAD programs encourage students to blend art, technology, design, engineering, science, and the humanities to develop innovative solutions. The undergraduate MAD program offers students foundational courses in UX/UI design, motion graphics, digital fabrication, and media histories. Students can then choose to specialize in Critical Media Studies, focusing on media analysis, or Emerging Media Arts, emphasizing the creation of digital arts, or opt to remain on a generalist path to explore all MAD has to offer. Our graduate programs in ATEC emphasize critical analysis and creative innovation. The MA’s Emerging Media Studies pathway explores the cultural and political impacts of digital media, while the MFA’s Creative Practice pathway focuses on producing new art and technology in studio environments. The PhD in ATEC prepares graduates for teaching or developing new applications of digital technology and emerging media.
