Communication Studies Programs
Overview of Communication Studies Degree Programs at the Bass School
Experts define communication as focusing “on how people use messages to generate meanings within and across various contexts” and as “the discipline that studies all forms, modes, media, and consequences of communication through humanistic, social scientific, and aesthetic inquiry” (National Communication Association web site). Communication Studies, as a discipline, incorporates theories, concepts, and skills of oral, visual, and mediated communication.
Undergraduate students can enroll in Communication Studies courses that help them effectively analyze and address audiences while raising their awareness of communication ethics. Communication Studies faculty in the Bass School teach students to perfect their communication skills so that they can effectively apply those skills in careers like professional and technical communication, public relations, and management.
